I know it might sound a little crazy. After all, it is the end of July. But this is when I usually dive head-first into creating my Christmas books, so that they are released in time for the holidays. And I have to say, I am currently working on the coolest book. The idea came to me a while ago, but recently it all began to take shape, and now I am really getting excited about it!
As a writer, sometimes I like to set the mood when I'm working on my books. I'll have a magical movie on in the background when writing my Wonky Witch books. So it's only logical that I would have a holiday movie on when I'm writing my Christmas books. The usual choice, for anyone who is curious, is Miracle on 34th Street, the newer version. It's such a simple story, complete with a glorious, snowy version of New York City, which always makes me long for the days when I lived there. Bundling up in your coat, hat, and gloves, stepping out into the snowy streets, walking along 5th Avenue and seeing the store windows bright with holiday cheer...it can truly be magical there. Almost timeless. It fills you with the holiday spirit, and everyone that you pass on the streets seems a little bit happier than before, a little bit brighter, a little bit more child-like. And that is why I write holiday books. These books bring out the magic that seems to disappear throughout the rest of the year. I don't want anyone, old or young alike, to forget the magic of Christmas. The magic that we adults forget about. Some people might think I'm crazy for watching Christmas moves in the summer. But I don't care. My heart is full. Is yours?
